Conservation Halton Creates an Environmental Impact From the Ground Up

Conservation Halton has been helping youth connect with the environment through its From the Ground Up program for the past eight years.

This unique educational initiative for middle and high school students blends experiential, hands-on learning with lasting environmental impact.

As the spring 2025 season ended, six schools across Halton Region participated, engaging more than 300 students in conservation work. These students have taken part in several environmental initiatives.

“Through interactive and purposeful activities, my students learned how their actions – both individually and as a school community – can positively impact forest health and biodiversity,” shared a Grade 6 teacher at Mohawk Gardens Public School.

Initiatives in the program included:

  • Planting native trees
  • Removing invasive species
  • Helping care for and restore local natural spaces

In 2024, BCF was proud to support the From the Ground Up program with a $12,000 grant as part of our annual Community Granting Program.
